Overview

This project is a technical proof-of-concept for a fast-paced, arena-style multiplayer first-person shooter built in Unity. The prototype focuses on combining high-velocity movement mechanics with peer-to-peer multiplayer synchronization via Steamworks.

Tools & Technologies: Unity, C#, Steamworks SDK, Multiplayer Networking

Technical Contributions & Systems Breakdown

1. High-Mobility Character Controller

  • Wall-Running Physics: Programmed surface-normal detection and gravity-modification logic in C# to allow players to latch onto, traverse, and chain jumps across vertical walls while preserving forward momentum.
  • Multi-Stage Aerial Movement: Implemented responsive double-jumping and air-control vectors tuned for high-speed arena navigation.

2. Multiplayer & Steamworks Integration

  • Lobby & Session Management: Integrated the Steamworks API to enable players to host and join multiplayer lobbies directly through their Steam friends list.
  • State Synchronization: Synchronized player transforms, movement states, and weapon firing events across connected clients to maintain responsive hit registration during high-speed traversal.

3. Modular Weapon Sandbox

  • Weapon Archetypes: Built a base weapon class hierarchy supporting distinct firing modes, recoil patterns, and projectile behaviors for rapid combat prototyping.
