Overview

As a Game Programmer and Systems Designer at GINCo, I develop core gameplay mechanics, interactive minigame loops, and system architectures in Kotlin for GINCo's Hytale minigame collection, including the featured release Byte Crashers: Jungle Jam.

Tools & Technologies: Kotlin, Java, Hytale Modding API, Angler's Almanac API, UI/UX Wireframing

Technical Contributions & Systems Breakdown

1. Byte Crashers Fishing Minigame Loop

Creating the Interactive Fishing Minigame in Byte Crashers became an Engineering Milestone within the Project as we developed the Minigame on my Open Source Library Anglers Almanac Framework:

  • 1. Design: A simple drawing to help guide the minigame. Fishing minigame plan
  • 2. Functional Kotlin Prototyping: Crated a working prototype to test the game and see how it feels. Fishing minigame prototype
  • 3. Production & UI Integration: Collaborated with the artists to integrate custom UI, visual feedback cues, and modifed difficulty curves into the final minigame. Fishing minigame

2. Gameplay Engineering & Debugging

  • Feature Implementation & Optimization: Programmed and optimized minigame mechanics in Kotlin while resolving gameplay state and UI bugs across the wider project repository.

Direct Impact

  • Accelerated Studio Delivery: The incorporation of Anglers Almanac API has enabled the development of the fishing minigame in Byte Crashers without developing any catch or loot mechanic system. This was enabled by using the API to reduce the amount of time spent developing it from scratch.
  • Player Friendly Experience: Prototyping and iterating between wireframe design and Kotlin development resulted in the creation of an interactive and cohesive experience for the player.
