Overview
Hytale Thankmas 2024 was a community-driven charity livestream event organized by an 88-person production, engineering, and build team. The event raised $15,000 in support of Samaritans and Crisis Text Line.
I contributed to the event across two tracks: engineering an interactive, stream-integrated Unity trivia game for live broadcast viewers, and collaborating with a 30-person team to construct the central Minecraft event hub world.
Tools & Technologies: Unity, C#, YouTube Live Streaming API, Minecraft Server & World Tools, Git
Technical Contributions & Systems Breakdown
1. "Guess the Mob" YouTube Chat Game (Unity & C#)
To keep livestream viewers actively engaged between main stage segments, I developed Youtube-Trivia, a real-time interactive game controlled directly via YouTube Live Chat:
- Live Chat Ingestion & Parsing: Connected Unity to the YouTube Live Chat feed in C# to ingest viewer messages in real time and filter valid entity guesses without dropping frames during chat spikes.
- Automated Scoring & Leaderboard Loop: Programmed round timers, silhouette reveal states, and a persistent point-tracking system that awarded scores to the fastest accurate commenters on stream.

2. Multiplayer Event Hub World Collaboration
- Hub Environment Production: Worked alongside 30 builders and technical contributors to design, assemble, and prepare the central Thankmas 2024 Minecraft hub world used to host on-stream segments and community tributes.

Direct Impact
- $15,000 Raised for Charity: Provided interactive broadcast segments and in-game environments that supported a successful fundraising campaign for Samaritans and Crisis Text Line.
